The Alligator Snapping Turtle is found in the Southeastern United States in the rivers that flow into the Gulf of Mexico. There is only one other snapping turtle found in the U.S.This species is the Common Snapping Turtle. It's shell is much smoother(there are less spikes on it),and it doesn'thave the prey attracting worm-like tounge. The alligator-snapping-turtle is the LARGEST freshwaterturtle in the world. It has a specialized tounge adapted to attract potential prey. When they come to investigate the tounge (which resembles a worm),the turtle bites its prey in half.
